Slaanesh army

Although I'm still planning on dropping the cash to build up an Eldar list (still playing around with the numbers) I have been toying with the idea of building up a secondary CSM list, this one a lot more shoot-y oriented than my previously posted list which is entirely based on getting up close and personal, then ripping the opponent a new one.

I'm currently toying with the idea of several 5-6 man Noise Marine squads, each with an Asp. Chmp., blastmaster, doom siren, with the rest decked out with sonic blasters with a personal icon thrown in the mix for the option of deepstriking (not quite sure yet...) For my heavy support, I was probably going to run double defiler with a 3-man oblit cult.

Not really sure how it'd work...any thoughts on how to make a stand-n-shoot chaos army would be appreciated/welcome.

  1. Slaanesh sorcerors or Demon Princes with the Lash of Submission are ridiculously effective with shooty lists - especially if you're bringing plenty of pie.

They are crazy killy (and fluffy if you're running an all Slaanesh list), but due to the cheese factor playing a Lash list probably won't make you any friends.

    Just throwing it out there.

  2. I'm not sure you need a Doom Siren on footslogging Noise Marine squads.

The 'conventional wisdom' is that Noise Marines go well in two flavors:

    1) Stand 'n' shoot with a bunch of Sonic Blasters and a Blastmaster. Power weapon might be optional.

    2) Melee; bring a Doom Siren and power weapon on the champion.

Config one wants 25 points a guy for the Sonic Blaster, though multiple small squads (5-6 guys, with Blastmaster perhaps, and no champs) would give you good anti-infantry shooty.

Option two isn't BAD per se, but runs into the issue of delivering assaulty troops in a chaos list.

Here's a random thought...it's the nut-stomping version of the Slaaneshi footslogging shooty list.

    Logic?
The strength/weakness of Noise Marines is that they're workable against infantry. They can packpedal, court, and shoot, or shoot well enough. With I5, a Power Weapon is a pretty natural fit....

So, that begs the question...how to handle more assaulty enemies? And, how to handle armor?

Well, the sicko's way is to drop in a pair of Winged Daemon Princes, which gives you both Lash, and some decent counterassault to bail your guys out.

The Terminator Squads are multi-purpose backup. Mostly, they're anti-armor hitmen; they come in and slam 3 melta shots into armor and follow up with a chainfist if necessary. Otherwise, they show up near your icons and provide backup.

Defilers...defile things. With Battle Cannon shots and S10 melee hits.

Obliterators fall in near icons, or provide long-range fire support.

...I'll probably regret suggesting it, but it's a starting point.

  3. I hadn't really planned on the noise marines being a footslogging unit, more in the traditional role of a plagues - sitting on the objective - but with a lot more muscle to bear. Granted their survivability isn't as orgasmic, but meh.

I do like the lineup you suggested, I may have to sink the money to get some noise marines (I would custom make...but they look so badass)

  4. Although looking at it, the army has a glaring weakness in any DoW game with seize ground and I don't deploy first to get the advantageous table position, or even in any seize ground scenario save pitched battle.

  5. That's a problem with any footslogging list, though.

I'm not sure about Noise Marines as objective sitters, as they've got 24" shooting with Sonic Blasters, and a single, longer-range shot with the Blastmaster (...which is a 40pt investment, mind you...). Noise Marines are bloody flexible troops, but that's kind of their problem.

If you wanted a more mechanized build, I'd probably go Mark of Slaanesh on tac builds, keep the DPs around as assault support, and move from there.

  6. The range is just as big an issue with plague marines, and at least the Sonic Blasters are assault 2 as opposed to rapid fire.

    Devil's advocate lol

  7. True...

Then again, coming out of a Rhino with a heap of Sonic Blasters, and then a power weapon/doom siren champ would be pretty sick to deal with. Don't charge them? They basically rapid-fire you AGAIN (with a heavy flamer) and charge into you. Are you T6+? Ok. Then you're in for a world of hurt.
